&pageText=The first procedure in maintaining the M240B is to ensure the weapon is clear. This ensures that no rounds have been left in the chamber, which could detonate during maintenance, and cause injury or death. To clear the M240B machine gun, you must:& &label1=Switch the safety to FIRE& &label2=Pull cocking handle to the rear, and return to forward position& &label3=Switch the safety to SAFE& &label4=Open cover, and inspect chamber& &label5=Lower feed tray& &label6=Switch the safety to FIRE& &label7=Ride the bolt forward& &label8=Close cover& &poptext1=Switch safety to FIRE, if necessary.& &poptext2=Pull cocking handle back, locking bolt to the rear. Return cocking handle forward.& &poptext3=Switch safety to SAFE.& &poptext4=Open cover, unload ammunition if present, and inspect chamber with four-point safety check.
1. Check feed pawl assembly.
2. Check feed tray.
3. Lift feed tray and inspect chamber.
4. Check space between face of bolt and the chamber.& &poptext5=After ensuring no ammunition is present, lower feed tray.& &poptext6=Switch safety to FIRE.& &poptext7=Firmly hold cocking handle to rear; pull trigger, and ease bolt forward until it closes and locks.& &poptext8=Close cover assembly, ensuring it locks shut.&
